Imagine yourself surrounded by the majesty of Desolation Sound as you painted under the guidance of renowned artist and instructor Mike Svob. It was a wonderful opportunity for painting enthusiasts to explore Desolation Sound, a magnificent section of the B.C. coast while receiving instruction from an experienced painter and teacher. With a small group of seven participants, there was a flexible schedule with daily exercises, demonstrations, and excursions ashore. The one-to-one guidance made those 3 nights/4 days a unique and valuable experience for those wishing to expand their artistic horizons. The trip was open to beginners and experienced painters alike, and Mike worked in both acrylics and watercolours.
Mike Svob has been a full-time artist since 1982. When we hosted this trip with him in 2012, he celebrated his 30th year as a professional artist. He is an impressionist, which is easily identified by his signature use of strong, bold colours. To date, Mike has had over 70 exhibitions and has produced 25 large-scale murals throughout North America and is fluent in watercolours, acrylics, and oils. He enjoys the creative process, is an avid map reader, a pilot, and a person with a great sense of adventure. His passion for travel and history has led him to paint a diverse range of subject matter.
Mike studied at the University of Western Ontario. He is a past president of the Federation of Canadian Artists and is also a senior member (SFCA) of this society. As an award-winning artist and a leading teacher and workshop instructor, Mike strongly believes that sharing knowledge among fellow artists and art students provides only positive results for all.
Mike is the author of the How to Paint book “Painting Red Hot Landscapes That Sell.” He has led painting workshops across North America and Europe. He is a skilled instructor who explains the painting process clearly yet simply.
Svob’s paintings are held in many private and corporate collections worldwide. His work has been featured in International Artists Magazine, Magazin’Art, Artist Magazine, and American Artist. His paintings and ideas about painting can be found in several art books. He studied at the University of Western Ontario and is a past president and senior member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
